Easy Home Tips

how to take care of your home:-

A new house isn't a home until it's warmed by your personal items — family photos on the wall, your favorite towels in the bathroom and a joyful cacophony of pots and pans, plates and flatware for serving the foods you love. It's easy to forget that a home is also a house made up of thousands of parts, many of which require a maintenance regimen and regular inspection to ensure they are at peak performance, just like your car. Devoting regular attention to maintenance means:
  • Preventing damage such as scratches, chips, cuts, burns, stains, gouges and scrapes to the cosmetic surfaces of your home
  • Regular cleaning using manufacturer-recommended products and techniques
  • Adjusting and lubricating the house's many parts
  • Replacing consumable parts, like light bulbs, filters and batteries in smoke detectors
  • Understanding and adhering to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance routine for appliances and other mechanical components.
Your new home likely has mechanical systems that are different from those of your last home. Take advantage of builders' homeowner orientation programs to make sure that you are familiar with the systems in your home and understand how to maximize their efficiency for your family's comfort. Know where the main safety shut-offs are for water, electricity and gas.
Building materials expand and contract over time because of changes in temperature and humidity, necessitating ongoing maintenance. Caulk, for example, dries, shrinks and cracks, diminishing its effectiveness until it no longer provides a seal against moisture and air infiltration. Maintaining caulking will be a routine task throughout the life of your home.
Likewise, you can expect some minor cracking in concrete flatwork, such as driveways and patios. Concrete cracks can result from shrinkage during curing, temperature changes or even soil movement. While cracking cannot be prevented entirely, you can minimize cracking by following these steps:

  • Maintain good drainage away from concrete slabs
  • Fill low spots or settled areas near concrete slabs
  • Seal cracks with concrete caulking
  • Remove ice and snow as soon as possible
  • Protect concrete from de-icing agents
  • Keep heavy vehicles (such as a moving van or dump truck) off concrete slabs
Beautiful yards are the result of years of caring and work, and require consistent attention to flourish. But whether gardening is a passion or a chore for you, consider planting native plants rather than exotics for best results. Cover soil as soon as possible to prevent erosion, and always maintain proper slope away from your home to ensure good drainage.
Finally, familiarize yourself with the warranties you receive with your new home, and be sure to activate manufacturer warranties by completing and mailing any registration cards. Besides activating your warranty, this step allows the manufacturer to contact you in the event of a product recall. Retain all warranty documents, and make sure recommended maintenance is up to date.
Few products combine science, technology, art and skill the way a new home does. Make preventative maintenance the hallmark of your home-care plan, and you'll enjoy the full satisfaction that owning a home can provide.

ACCEPT WHAT YOU HAVE:-

Research shows that happy people have modest levels of expectation and aspirations — they want what they can get — while unhappy people never seem to get what they want. They also know how to avoid disappointments and how to generate pleasant surprises. This is because they strive for realistic goals and are happy with their lot. As Dr Jose de Jesus Garcia Vega, of the University of Monterrey, Mexico, confirms, we must accept things as they come.
‘We spend a lot of time complaining about the things that happen to us, but this is a waste of time and effort,’ he says. ‘To be happy, we need to enjoy what we have.
ENJOY WHAT YOU DO:-
Happy people do what they enjoy and enjoy what they do — and don’t do it for the money  or glory. There’s no point being stuck in a job you hate, surrounded by unfriendly colleagues just because the money is good — people forget that they are allowed to be happy at work, too. Many spend the best years of their lives trying to make money, sacrificing their health and family in the process, says Dr Garcia Vega. Later, they spend the same money they made working trying to recover their lost health and estranged family.
LIVE FOR TODAY:-
Don’t dwell on the past, on things that went wrong or previous failures. Similarly, don’t dream about an idealised future that doesn’t exist or worry about what hasn’t happened yet. Happy people live for the now; they have positive mind sets. If you can’t be happy today, what makes you think tomorrow will be different?

CHOOSE HAPPINESS:-
Don’t be afraid to step back and re-evaluate your goals. Imagine your life as a story that you can edit and revise as you  go along. This kind of flexible approach requires positive thinking and an open mind — you need to actively choose to be happy.

RELATIONSHIPS:-
We get our happiness from other people, and from supporting other people. Remember that just as other people can make us happy, we are all ‘other people’ to someone else. And cherish people who are important to you. Research also shows that married people are happier than single people.

STAY BUSY:-
If you want to be happier, develop an outgoing, social personality — accept that drinks invitation, join the walking club, book group or choir. The best way to savour pleasure is in the company of others. Build a rich social life, says Eunkook M. Suh, a psychology professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, not as an obligation, but because it is rewarding, meaningful and fun.
Active, busy, social people are the healthiest and happiest, in society. Get involved: make your motto ‘use it or lose it.’

Its Recess Time Guys :

1. You can BreakThrough your "comfort"

1. Learn something without a reason
Learn something new just for the change. Take up dance classes, martial arts classes or communication classes. Learn an instrument or learn a language. By learning something new for no reason, you allow yourself to get out of your usual way of thinking, without putting pressure on yourself to master of any of these skills.
2. Care Little Less
This may seem like an inconsiderate statement, especially when everyone could use a bit more compassion. We're all for that, so that's not what we mean when we say 'care less'.
3. Have some Road Trip without a plan!!
If you can, take a spontaneous drive to nowhere in particular. Take a friend, some change and a camera.

Part of the reason for being in a comfort zone is that you have forgotten your dreams. You start to accept your current circumstances for what they are and neglect to try to reach for what you once wanted to have.
5. Go through the traditional standards 'n' Date them
Your comfort zone could very well be in your relationships too. Be open to dating the men or women that you may usually avoid. For short while, forget the notion of having a 'type'.

Some Useful Home Tips :

1. How to Dispose of Unused Medicine

Guidelines for Drug Disposal
•Follow any specific disposal instructions on the drug label or patient information that accompanies the medication.
• Take advantage of community drug take-back programs that allow the public to bring unused drugs to a central location for proper disposal. Call your city or county government's household trash and recycling service (see blue pages in phone book) to see if a take-back program is available in your community.
• If no instructions are given on the drug label and no take-back program is available in your area, throw the drugs in the household trash.

Why the Precautions?
• Disposal instructions on the label are part of FDA's "risk mitigation" strategy, says Capt. Jim Hunter, R.Ph., M.P.H., senior program manager on FDA's Controlled Substance Staff. When a drug contains instructions to flush it down the toilet, he says, it's because FDA, working with the manufacturer, has determined this method to be the most appropriate route of disposal that presents the least risk to safety.

2. Eat different foods at different meals.

Eat different foods at different meals. A meal consisting of proteins, carbohydrates and fats may remain in the stomach for six to seven hours before the stomach is emptied. If carbohydrates are eaten without proteins, they remain in the stomach for a relatively short period. A fruit meal remains in the stomach for even shorter time. It is advisable to eat these different foods at different meals- a fruit meal, a starch meal and a protein meal. The ideal practice is a fruit meal for breakfast, a starch meal with salad and non- starchy vegetables for lunch, and a protein meal with a salad and non-starchy vegetables for dinner.

3. Relax the eyes to relieve glaucoma.

The glaucoma patient should undertake various methods of relaxing and strengthening the eyes. He should avoid emotional stress and cultivate a tranquil, restful life style. He should also avoid prolonged straining of the eyes such as occurs during excessive TV or movie watching and excessive reading. The use of sun glasses should be avoided. Equally important is the avoidance of stimulants, tea, coffee, and caffeinated soft drinks.

4. Balanced diet for restoring restful sleep.

A balanced diet with simple modifications in the eating pattern will go a long way in the treatment and cure of insomnia. Such a diet should exclude white flour products, sugar and its products, tea, coffee, chocolate, cola drinks, alcohol, fatty foods, fried foods, foods containing additives, that is chemicals for preserving, colouring and flavouring, excessive use of salt and strong condiments. In the modified eating pattern, breakfast should consist of fresh and dried fruits, whole cereals, seeds and yoghurt. Of the two main meals, one should consist of a large mixed salad and the other should be protein-based. A cup of milk sweetened with honey at bedtime is helpful as the amino acid tryptophan contained in milk induces sleep.
